ANNOUNCEMENT

 

PE and CONTINUING EDUCATION HOUR OPPORTUNITIES

    Beginning in January 2004, Professional Engineers in New York State are required to earn 36 CEHs (Continuing Education Hours) every three years in order to renew the Professional Engineer’s License.

 

    The School of Engineering at Manhattan College is a New York State Approved Provider of CEH educational material.  The School of Engineering offers a number of opportunities for organizations and groups of individuals to obtain CEHs every year to satisfy PE license registration needs or to satisfy continuing education/professional development needs of individuals in engineering or engineering-related professions. 

 

    Toward this end, the School of Engineering schedules a variety of continuing education sessions per year with each session worth four (4) CEHs of credit applicable to PE license registration or applicable to continuing education and  professional development requirements.  These sessions are designed to be of general applicability to practicing engineers and are scheduled to minimize inconvenience to participating individuals.

Continuing Education Sessions and Schedules - 2007

     The Continuing Education sessions are scheduled for Friday afternoons from 2:00pm to 6:00pm the Leo Engineering Building at Manhattan College.  Additional details concerning these sessions are available at the links listed above.  The sessions scheduled for 2007 are:

   Session #1:      Engineering Risk and Decision Analysis, March 23rd

   Session #2:      Control Technologies, April 20th

   Session #3:      Ethics in Engineering, May 18th

   Session #4:      New Power Technologies I, June 1st

   Session #5:      New Power Technologies II, June 29th

                                      (Prerequisite: New Power Technology I)

   Session #6:      New Concrete Solutions to Bridge Decks, September 7th

   Session #7:      Pervious Concrete for Roadways, September 28th

   Session #8:      To be announced, October

   Session #9:      Surface Water Quality Management, November 30th

   Session #10:    Legal Aspects in Engineering, December 7th

 

In addition, a series of related, topically focused, four hour courses are being offered on Thursday mornings from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm during August, 2007:

 

 Topical Sessons:  Practical Forensic Metallurgy for Engineers

(CEH approval is pending)

 

   Introduction to Materials; August 2nd

                   (this course is required to take any of the following)

   Service-Induced Damage Mechanisms - Overload Failures, August 9th

   Service-Induced Damage Mechanisms - Wear Failures, August 23rd

   Service-Induced Damage Mechanisms - Fatigue Failures, August 30th

   

   The School of Engineering also offers these topics and others (contact the School for additional details) to groups (e.g., 10 or larger) of engineers on-site at individual companies.  Arrangements for these on-site sessions need to be made through the Dean’s Office in the School of Engineering.  Distance delivery courses are also available.
