Master of Science in Civil
Engineering
MISSION:
The Civil Engineering graduate degree program, with a strong
emphasis on design, is intended for practicing civil engineers, as
well as those who wish to pursue doctoral studies.
Programs of study include structural analysis, geotechnical
engineering, and a combination of both areas.
OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of this program are:
(a) to provide a knowledge of advanced topics related to the
structural and geotechnical engineering areas of civil engineering,
and (b) to provide a practice-based knowledge founded on application
of advanced techniques in analysis and design.
REQUIREMENTS
FOR ADMISSION: Applicants
possessing a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering from a
program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of
the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, or from a
recognized foreign institution, and having a minimum grade point of
3.00 will be ordinarily admitted as matriculated graduate students.
Applicants
with baccalaureate degrees in other engineering disciplines, having
a minimum grade point average of 3.00, will ordinarily be admitted
as non-matriculated students. Matriculation
will ordinarily follow upon completion of the following prerequisite
courses in civil engineering with a grade point average of 3.00 and
no grade lower than C, including statics, dynamics, strength or
materials, determinate and indeterminate structural analysis, steel
design, reinforced concrete design, soil mechanics and fluid
mechanics.
The
prerequisites will not satisfy any requirement for the Master of
Science in Civil Engineering degree.
Generally, students must complete all prerequisite courses
before they are permitted to register for graduate courses,
exceptions require the recommendation of the Chairperson of the Civil Engineering
Department and the approval of the Dean of
Engineering. Further
information may be obtained from the Graduate Division Catalogue.
Please direct all inquiries to the director of the graduate program
in the Civil Engineering Department, Prof.
Walter P. Saukin, Ph.D.
