MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering programs is to foster in each student ability and enthusiasm to work wisely, creatively, and effectively for the betterment of humankind, thereby promoting future success in the profession.  Central to the programs are certain principles, including the importance of collaboration, the discovery and sharing of knowledge, the appreciation of ethical, safety and economic concerns, and the need for life-long learning and advanced study.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

 

The mission of the Electrical Engineering and the Computer Engineering programs requires the attainment of specific objectives.  These are:

  • To provide students with fundamental knowledge of the physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering sciences.

  • to graduate engineers who are proficient in the use of tools of the profession including laboratory skills, modeling and analysis, and computers;

  • to develop critical thinking abilities in analyzing problems, gathering information and extending knowledge to the solution of new problems;

  • to provide experience in the solution of open-ended design problems and in working effectively on multi-disciplinary teams;

  • to enhance proficiency in oral and written communications and in technical presentations;

  • to foster an appreciation of the interplay of technology, economics, and societal considerations such as ethics and safety in engineering design;

  • to use the intellectual support of a diverse campus community to encourage an appreciation of the values of the humanities, social sciences and arts in the practice of engineering;

  • to develop in students the skills and passion necessary to achieve continued success in an engineering career through the pursuit of graduate studies and life-long learning.
