Jerome Cuomo graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1958. He received a Masters degree in Physical Chemistry from Saint John's University in 1960 and went on to earn the Ph.D. degree in Physics from Odense University in Denmark in 1979. 

Dr. Cuomo joined the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center at Yorktown Heights, NY in 1963 and retired from that organization in 1993. During that time at IBM he held various positions relating to Chemistry and Chemical Research including that of Senior Manager.  He is currently the Distinguished Research Professor in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at North Carolina State University at Raleigh, NC.

In 1993 Dr. Cuomo was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.  He was cited for significant contributions to ion beam and plasma processing of thin film materials.
