Donald O'Connor graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1944. He earned a Masters Degree in Engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn and received the Ph.D. in Engineering Science from New York University in 1956. 

Dr. O'Connor worked for Parsons, Brinkerhoff, Hall and MacDonald and, later, Gibbs and Hill in New York City from 1947 to 1952.  He taught part-time at Manhattan College and Brooklyn Polytechnic University. He joined the Manhattan College Faculty full-time in 1952 and was one of the co-founders of the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering. He served as a Business Consultant to Eastman Kodak and General Motors. He was a co-founder of Hydro-Qual in Mahwah, New Jersey. 

In 1978 Dr. O'Connor was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.  He was cited for his leadership in the field of mathematical modeling to gauge the effects of pollution and abatement measures.  Dr. O'Connor passed away on April 18, 1997.
